Softlogic plans mega department store
The Softlogic Group is ‘testing’ the market with its recently opened ‘Galleria’ store in a bid to gear for a bigger department store, officials said. “This is a mini department store with 7,500 square feet and we have everything from apparel to electronics to perfumes with renowned brands. With this we’re testing the market to come up with a bigger store,” Ashok Pathirage, Chairman Softlogic told the Business Times, ahead of the store’s opening on Friday at Havelock Road, Colombo 5.
He added that they’ll bring some more international brands to the country by next year. The company set foot in consumer electronics market by acquiring Uni Walkers in 2006, which has been structured to carry out retail segment operations, which includes a wide range of consumer electronics, branded apparel and furniture.
Mr. Pathirage added that their new Mothercare store at Duplication Road opened last month and that Softlogic plans to penetrate the computer and home appliances space on a multi brand – multi product strategy, ranging multi product strategy, ranging from a basic radio set to air conditioner, while possessing an island-wide distribution network.
