SLT Rainbow Pages App adds convenience
SLT Publications (Pvt.) Ltd., popularly known as Rainbow Pages is the publisher of the comprehensive National Business Directory – SLT RAINBOW PAGES and holds the unique position of being the foremost Directory publisher in Sri Lanka.
With the first directory published in 1939 telephone directories in Sri Lanka has come a long way adding more value and convenience for both the listed as well the user. Latest of this wide range of value addition was the recently launched mobile app that can be downloaded free to your Android enabled smart phone to access the Rainbow Pages directory. Following are the excerpts of interviews held with SLT Publications (Pvt.) Ltd. & SLT VisionCom (Pvt.) Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Malraj Balapitiya and SLT Publications (Pvt.) Ltd. General Manager – Sales and Marketing Ruwan Wijetunge.
Q – Can you brief about the SLT and its directory publishing operations?
Ruwan – SLT has a proud history of Directory publishing dating back to the late 1930’s. During the early days, information was disseminated to the public via the printed book. This directory which is a statutory requirement is circulated to all SLT telephone subscribers in Sri Lanka and contains valuable information on Government Organizations and Business Organizations. It also includes the Doctors Directory and the Architects Directory and also contains the Rainbow Pages, which is the ultimate guide to anyone seeking contact information on any topic.
Malraj – First directory came out in late 1939. During a certain period this operation was outsourced but we took it back in 2000 and rebranded the directory as Rainbow Pages. First directory with RAINBOW PAGES brand was published in 2002 . 2012 being the 10th year in operation for the Rainbow pages, if you turn back there are several land mark achievement, which actually changed the market and alleviating the customer service to a new height.Due to the diversified range of multiple access media, SLT Rainbow Pages has been able to cater to many people belonging to different walks of life.
These sources of information make directory information accessible from anyplace at any time and no doubt pave the way to make life easy and convenient to the public. It has made revolutionary changes in the lifestyle of people, resulting in business communication and decision making breakthroughs
Q – Can you explain the exclusivity of each product?
Ruwan – When it comes to the printed edition, the directory for the Western Province gets printed on an annual basis and the provincial directory once in every two years. All-in-all there are over 7,000 institutions listed in both these directories in total. With our directories listing all categories of suppliers and service providers, people finds is easy to refer and find a supplier for their requirement. Then a simple telephone call will save them time and efforts that prevents from going from a shop to another in search of the particular item or the service they require. Life becomes much easier with the Rainbow pages.
Malraj – The RAINBOW PAGES website opens the door to foreigners to search information on Sri Lanka. Some people prefer to use the Rainbow Pages directory CD that has a data base and the necessary application software.
It is a matter of installing this in your computer and you are good to browse in search of listed details. The electronic directory version is more like the actual printed edition where you can turn pages. Being a onetime installation, you can also share this CD with somebody else! Using the remote control of your Peo-TV connection the directory listings can be browsed on your television screen.
Q – Can you tell us about the mobile app, which is a new concept in Sri Lanka?
Malraj– RAINBOW PAGES with all its listed products keeps in par with the other directory publishers in the world. Our latest product SLT Rainbow Pages App is for Android users but we have plans to go for other platforms as well. This new app offers ‘search by keyword’, ‘search by category’, and ‘search business through the most popular category’ to make the process of finding useful information a pleasurable. In order to expedite each search the app consists of predictive text and quick links to top categories. The auto complete feature remembers the favorite search term making it easier to access past records on the go. SLT Rainbow Pages App is now available for downloading at Google Market for free.
Q – Does your RAINBOW PAGES include competitor telco subscriber listings?
Ruwan – Yes, we are very flexible in this. Our directories include details about the Business listing of other operators. This is also an added advantage where Rainbowpages becoming the national directory.
Q – It was noticed that RAINBOW PAGES have omitted the residential listings, any reason for this omission?
Malraj– SLT has residential details exceeding 1.5 million. There can be similar names used for different people. Unless you know the surname as well as some other essential details of the person who is listed finding information through the directory is not easy. For an example if you are looking for a person by the name of Perera there are over 70 pages that lists people identified by that name! So, we have discontinued the listing of domestic subscribers in the print edition but have continued with the web edition. However, if you call 1213 and give certain details of the person you are looking for the particular call center will be able to assist you with it. This is a 24hrs service and we offer this service to SLT customers free of Charge.
