Winning shots of the wild
Chaaya Wild Yala, in collaboration with Etisalat Sri Lanka hosted the annual ‘Chaaya Wild – Etisalat Nature Photographer 2012’ competition and exhibition for the third consecutive time this year. The exhibition was held at the Harold Peiris Gallery at the Lionel Wendt from December 1 to 3.
Among 844 entries, the overall winner of the adult category Asela Karunarathne received a cash prize of Rs. 75,000, a complimentary weekend voucher for two at Chaaya Wild Yala and a Huawei Tab from Etisalat.
This year an overall winner was not chosen from the Junior Category as the judges felt the entries were not of the required standard. However, Minura Perera was placed first and received Rs. 10,000 in cash, a complimentary weekend voucher at Chaaya Wild Yala as well as a Huawei Tab from Etisalat.
The winner of the Instagram competition Mr. Kasun was also awarded a Huawei Tab from Etisalat plus a weekend voucher for two at Chaaya Wild Yala.
The competition was conducted under two categories, namely adults and juniors. The submission categories were: behaviour of mammals, behaviour of birds, other wildlife and wild and scenic places.
In the Instagram competition, (the photo sharing social network) participants had to upload their photographs on the Etisalat Facebook Page and the most ‘Liked’ photograph was adjudged the winner.
