headed by Prof Wu Wanmin (president of Guangzhou Civil Aviation College) paid a visit to American College of Higher Education. The visit was to appreciate and to strengthen the partnership between American College of Higher Education and Guangzhou Civil Aviation College. American College of Higher Education and Guangzhou Civil Aviation College are in collaboration in awarding Diploma in Aircraft maintenance and Engineering and Travel and Tourism to our Sri Lankan students .The delegates included The President of the College Prof Wu Wanmin, Dr Li Shaolin( Director, Foreign Affairs Office of GCAC) , Mr. Lin Lieshu( Vice Dean, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering School ), Mr. Xu Peian( Vice Dean, Airport Management School), Mr. Xiao Xu (Dean, Business Management School), Mr. Lin Weiqiang (  Officer, Foreign Affairs Office)

The delegates were warmly welcomed by the CEO of American College of Higher Education, Madam Sherryn Yaseen- Mangalagama and Mr. Suresh Yaseen, The Director of American College of Higher Education and the Program manager Mr. Rohana Nanayakkara. The students of American International College presented a guard of honor to welcome the delegates.

The delegates were conducted in a procession led by cultural dancers. Professor Wanmin planted a Mahogany sapling as a symbol of partnership and to commemorate the occasion.

The function was attended by the staff of American College of Higher education, staff of American International College, the students who have successfully completed the Diploma course in Guangzhou and those who are registered for the course, with their parents. Students from the Nalanda College, Isipathana College, Holy Cross College, and American International School from Colombo and from some other schools attended the occasion. The students were curious to meet and discuss the prospect of the courses on Aviation conducted by American college of Higher Education, as the most popular field of the young generation seems to be aviation.
American College of Higher Education, other than the main branch in Dehiwala has five branch colleges in Negombo, Kandy, Kurunegala, Galle and Matara. All these branches conduct most of the courses conducted by American College of Higher Education. The staff of those branches attended the function with their branch managers and interested students.

To commence the programme, the oil lamp which was impressively decorated was lighted by the distinguished guests. This was followed by singing of the national anthem of both countries and the college anthem thereafter.

The CEO of ACHE Madam Sherryn Yaseen Mangalagama in her speech said that she is extremely impressed by Prof Wanmin’s research publications, involvements in advisory and counseling committees and the engagement with higher vocational institutions. She quoted from Neil Armstrong, the first human being to step on the moon, that “one small step for a man is one giant leap for the mankind.” She highlighted that Neil Armstrong was an aircraft engineer, like those students who will obtain the Diplomas from Guangzhou.

Kasun, who is employed in Sri Lanka after the successful completion of the Diploma in Travel and Tourism at American College of Higher Education and Guangzhou Civil Aviation College, delivered a speech in Chinese which was commended by the Chinese delegation. The students who study for diploma in Aircraft management and Engineering and Travel and Tourism have to follow the theoretical section of the course in their first year at American College of Higher Education. Apart from the theoretical subjects, The students are guided in basic Chinese that would help in their first days in Guangzhou, China. Kasun is employed in Sri Lanka so as many others who have completed the course. The students who passed out from Guangzhou sang a Chinese song proving their ability and familiarity with the Chinese language

Professor Wanmin’s speech was translated to English by Dr. Shaolin. In his speech he commended the hard work, punctuality, dedication and enthusiasm shown by American College of Higher Education in this joint programme. He admired the capability and the enthusiasm shown by students who have and are completing the Diploma at Guangzhou Civil Aviation College. Professor Wanmin highly appreciated the healthy partnership existing between two Colleges, American College of Higher education and Guangzhou Civil Aviation College. At the end of the occasion MOU was signed for the Diploma in Airport Management that will be commenced early next year that would follow the same academic procedure as for The existing Diploma programmes.

The views expressed about the programme by the past students of this programme were very positive. They showed a video on their

stay which grabbed the attention of those who are intending to follow the programme in China. The past students were very impressed of their stay in China, especially with the academic facilities they had in Guangzhou. There were 4 aircraft simulators, 29 aircraft and more than 200 various types of machines for hands on experience. The students were highly taken up by the sporting activities they had, which kept them healthy in both body and mind.

The students were very grateful as the medical insurances, hostel fees, books for education were included in the fees charged for the programme. As the Guangzhou Civil Aviation College has many international connections, the students were very confident in applying for employment and further training abroad.

The important focus of the event was the discussion time. School children, parents and students who are willing to enrol in the programme were interested in clarifying the concerns they had, with the delegates and the academics of the institute.

Celebratory cake was cut by Madam Sherryn Yaseen- Mangalagama, the president Professor Wu Wanmin and representatives of students from all branches of American college of Higher Education.

The event ended with a grand lunch provided for all present. During the lunch break more dances, solos and vocal performances were presented by the talented students at The American college of Higher Education.

The event ended on a positive note that this was only the beginning of a long journey between American college of Higher Education and Guangzhou Civil Aviation College.
