Scholarships key to success for study in Australia
View(s):High achievers have many opportunities to earn a scholarship for study abroad – and the University of Wollongong (UOW) in Australia
is one university that likes to reward high achievers.
One of the highlights of its scholarship program is the UOW Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships which offer a 25% reduction of the normal annual course tuition fee for the duration of the student’s course, up to a maximum duration of four years.
Chamal Amaratunga is one Sri Lankan student who has availed himself of this scholarship, commencing a Bachelor of Commerce degree in the latest July intake.
“I chose UOW because when I was looking at universities in New South Wales it stood out. The environment and student feedback were really positive” Chamal said.
Chamal is studying at the main campus in Wollongong, Australia’s ninth largest city, and just over an hour from Sydney, where UOW also operates the Sydney Business School offering a range of professional Masters courses.
“This scholarship really motivates me to get somewhere I’ve not been before. Since beginning at UOW I’ve really loved the environment, people are so friendly and that has helped me adapt to a new place.”
The scholarships are available to students enrolling in most Bachelor degrees. There is no limit to the number of scholarships available – students meeting the criteria are automatically awarded the scholarship when they receive their offer of admission.
Chamal is confident that he has made the right choice in deciding to accept his scholarship offer – in the future I think that this degree will really position me well, I think a UOW degree is a real advantage in the market.”
The scholarship program does not stop there – the UOW offers top-up scholarships in some of its most popular Bachelor degrees. The highest achievers can apply for these scholarships offered in areas such as engineering, business, physics, computer science and IT. These additional scholarships offer different benefits – in same cases a further 25% tuition reduction bringing the student’s total scholarship to 50%.
High achievers can also access Dean’s Scholar’s and Advanced degrees which offer students enriched educational experiences including mentoring, special workshops and seminars, extended library privileges, accelerated degree programs and textbook allowances.
