Stafford international School, Colombo 7 emerged champions, beating 17 participating schools at the all island marketing competition entitled “Marketing Rocks”, organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), held at Aquinas College, Borella. St, Lawrence College and Royal College were adjudged the 1st and 2nd runners up, respectively, at this competition.

The competition which was based on a pre-released case – study, required each participating team to formulate a marketing plan for a new health-conscious ‘lunch packet’ for Sri Lankan executives and office workers. This very timely and practical project involved designing a logo, brand name, TV advertisement story board, promotional media and carrying out an estimate of the financial cost involved, all within a limit span of three hours.

Each school was required to send a team comprising ten members. Stafford International School Team was made up of Asmara Argus, Thulanga Gunawardena, Praveen Rodrigo, Birendra Kalupathirana, Kabilan Sivarajasingham, Erandi de Silva, Tharusha Gunathilake and Shane Jesudasan from the Advanced Level Commerce Class and Taryana Odayar and Jerusha Morais from the Advanced Susidiary Level.

Asmara Argus, the Captain of the Stafford Team, commented that the competition was, especially, beneficial for students offering Business Studies, wherein they gained a wealth of knowledge of a number of new topics pertaining to the subject. It was also a highly interesting, fun-filled experience which promoted team work and co-ordination among students, she further stated. She also expressed her gratitude to the Teacher- in Charge, Mrs Priyanga Madurapperuma for training and guiding the team.

The winning team bagged a cash award of rupees one lakh which would be shared among the team members.
