‘Whispering Pages’ launched today
View(s):Dulari Wijesundara, a teacher of English and Elocution with over two decades of experience will launch a series of children’s books today at 5.00pm at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
‘Whispering Pages’ is a series of four illustrated books which include an Audio DVD. It is aimed at helping children understand the importance of pronunciation and learning the correct phonetic sounds. As a teacher of Elocution, with a Wendy Whatmore teaching center in Udahamulla, Dulari stresses the importance of pronunciation when learning the universal language.
Dulari Wijesundara is an inspiration to many, and the inspiration behind her book is her students. Always the avid writer, she began sketching her thoughts down as she consoled a crying child in her class who refused to leave her side. One of the 4 books titled ‘She came at last’ is about that experience.
The 4 books, ‘Kiddie goes to the Garden’, ‘She Came at Last’, ‘You Can Do It’ and ‘Little Araliya’, that come under the banner of ‘Whispering Pages’, are illustrated by her daughter Senuki. The book launch will be graced by esteemed children’s author Sybil Wettasinghe, who contributed immensely to Dulari’s writing process. The launch will be followed by a concert by her students.
This concert bridges a gap of almost 20 years of teaching, with the youngest taking part being 3 years old and the eldest actor being a past pupil of 25 years of age. The Concert ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ – A Musical, is a culmination of her work beginning in 1990, and a celebration of her love of teaching. Tickets are available at the gate.
