President of SOS Children’s Villages International visits Sri Lanka
View(s):President – SOS Children’s Villages International Siddhartha Kaul, arrived in Sri Lanka on December 20.
Mr. Kaul was elected the President in June 2012 and is the third President and the first Asian President of the organisation.
This visit, is very special to him, for Sri Lanka has a special place in his heart, as it was to him, the then President Dr. Hermann Gmeiner (founder of the SOS Children’s Villages) entrusted the responsibility of establishing the first SOS Children’s Village in Piliyandala in 1981.
Mr. Kaul went on to establish two more SOS Children’s Villages and its ancillary projects in Nuwara Eliya and Galle before he left Lanka in 1986. Under his guidance, SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka expanded its activities in Anuradhapura, Monaragala and Jaffna.
Today there are five SOS Children’s Villages with the sixth SOS Children’s Village being constructed in Jaffna.
Mr Kaul has received numerous honours within the organisation as well as from governments and civil society in countries throughout Asia.
