England through in a cliffhanger
View(s):England’s stand in skipper Eoin Morgan hit a twenty six ball 49 not out to take England to a cliffhanger last ball victory by 6 wickets over India and square their two match T-20 series at 1-all at Mumbai yesterday.
Chasing a stiff target of 178 runs to win in 20 overs England made 181 for 4 with Morgan finally taking charge of the innings. India won the first match.
It were the English openers Michael Lumb (50 in 34 balls) and Alex Hales (42 in 33 balls) who put on 80 runs for the first wicket in 8.2 overs that gave the visitors the initial push.
Then the first match Indian hero Yuvraj Singh cut through the English top order to finish his four overs with figures of 3 for 17, thus making the Indian total of 177 more elastic. But, skipper Morgan had other ideas. Morgan hit five fours and a six earlier and another to win the match in the last ball, seeing them through.
India who took the first lease of the wicket at one juncture were tentatively placed at 108 for 5 in the 15th over, but a brisk 50 run stand in 4.3 overs by the Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni and Suresh Raina who made 38 (in 23 balls) and 35 respectively helped them post the respectable 177 for 7 in their allotted twenty overs.
Earlier inform batsman Virat Kohli held the Indian top order with a knock of 38 off twenty five deliveries.
