The star of the match was Kaweesh Pushpakumara of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda, who scored an unbeaten 158 runs in an equal
number of deliveries with three sixes and sixteen boundaries.
Opting to bat first, Galle scored 323 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs. The Matara bowlers were hit to all parts of the Galle stadium.
The Matara team did not make any attempt to chase down the score and were bundled out for 146 runs in 39 overs. Rajantha Chandula, 48, and Ramesh Nimantha, 37, were the only batsmen to impress for the losing side. Dhanushka Priyadarshana and Bhanuka Dilshan captured two wickets each.
Matara district will not be able to make a bid for the district championship for a few more years as junior cricket in the district is at an all time low, with all three of its division one schools failing to proceed beyond the first round of the Under 13 school tournament this year.- Text and picture By P D de Silva
