Royal’s swimmers tear ahead in 2012

Royal College, Colombo, has enjoyed a stellar run in the pool this year, emerging school swimming champions in several swimming competitions.
This achievement is considered very rare because it is after many years that Royal, captained this season by Kanitha Munasinghe, has won three major tournaments.
The three major tournaments that Royal bagged this year were the National Age Group championship (Won after 16 years); the national school games championship (won after 11 years) and the National Swimming championship. (Won after 25 years).
Kanitha won the coveted Under 19 individual championship at the Sri Lanka Schools Swimming tournament. The Royal skipper also won the Best Swimmer shield at the National Swimming Championships.
Royal also performed well in four other swimming championships:
1) Annual two mile sea swim – 2nd runners up
2) Pentathlon swimming championships – runners up
3) Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championships – runners up
* Royal college won the under 17 group championship
* Royal college won the under 15 group championship
* Kanitha Munasinghe won the under 19 individual championship
4) National short course swimming championships – runners up
Those behind their success are swimming consultant Julian Bolling and coaches Kingsley Bandulla and Asoka Kumara.
The team Vice Captain was Sandeepa Dheragoda. Four of the swimmers participated in the Asian Championships in Dubai.
