SLC says no one has officially informed us about retirement
View(s):Speculation in Down Under is rife about Tillakaratne Dilshan consideration of following Lasith Malinga into retirement from Test
cricket this year, and Australian Big Bash teams keen on signing one of the world’s most potent short-form batsmen, SLC says that none of the cricketers have informed them officially about such decisions.
Director Cricket Operations, Sri Lanka cricket Ashley de Silva told the Sunday Times “The general practice is that prior to retirement
cricketers do have a chat with us and it is followed by a letter, but no cricketer who is on this Australian tour has done that so far”.
Dilshan has gone on record in Australia that he is considering moving out of the Test segment after the last Test in Sydney while Thilan Samaraweera also have stated that he too is pondering such a move.
However at the age of 36 Dilshan and Samaraweera would have no Test commitments till the end of 2013, if they even decide to stay out the two Test matches against Bangladesh at home, which will begin upon their return.
Meanwhile chief selector Asantha de Mel also scoffed the statement that paceman Lasith Malinga may return Test cricket. He said “Malinga is carrying an injury and he is not fit enough to perform at Test level and we need his presence at the shorter version of the game. If he does come back even I do not think we should risk him in the longer version because we may end up with losing his services altogether”.
