Customs on a drive to curtail software piracy

Sri Lanka Customs, under the direction of the Director General of Customs, recently embarked on conducting a series of capacity building programs in partnership with the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and its members on curtailing software piracy in Sri Lanka.

The programme attempts to make customs officers aware of the law, the numerous ways in which pirates bring pirated software into the country, according to the BSA. Detailed trainings of product identification of counterfeit and pirated software, will be given. Further, customs officials have committed to be vigilant with regards to the smuggling of non-genuine products and proper importation in to the country via air and shipping. The inaugural session was chaired by the Director General with Shalini Ratwatte, Consultant BSA and members of the two authorised Microsoft distributors – Trident Corporation and Tech One Global making presentations. The HRD Directorate of Sri Lanka Customs organized the programme, the BSA said in a media statement.
