IESL Wayamba Centre AGM
View(s):The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) Wayamba Centre, held its Annual General Meeting on Friday, 30th Nov, 2012 at
Season’s Hotel, Kurunegala in the presence of a large gathering of its members, distinguished guests and special invitees. Eng. Tilak De Silva, President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, the parent body of the Centre, was the Chief Guest and Mr. Gamini Bandaranayake, Managing Director / CEO of Kuruwita Textiles and Director, Brandix Textiles Ltd. , a well known management expert, was the Guest Speaker for the occasion.
The IESL is the premier professional body for the engineering profession in the country. Its vision is to be among the leading professional institutions and a Centre for Excellence and Leadership in the field of Engineering and Technology in Asia.The Institution has embarked on making all its membership services available online with the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT ) during this session under the presidency of Eng. Tilak De Silva who is himself an Electronics & Telecommunications Engineer. The IESL Centres which are the provincial arms of the institution are expected to be better positioned to provide more dynamic services of real time benefit to its members serving in the provinces.
Eng. Prasad Ratnayake, BSc (Eng.) Hons (SL), MSc (Eng.) (Aust),CEng, MIE (SL), MIE (Aust) was elected as Chairman at the AGM and will steer the Centre during the new session.He has graduated from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 1990 with an Honours Degree in BSc. Engineering, specializing in the field of Electrical Engineering.He obtained his Masters Degree in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Monash University Australia in 2005. He became an Associate Member of the IESL in 1990. He obtained his full professional qualifications (Charter) and became a Corporate Member of the IESL in 1995.He is also a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
Eng. Prasad Ratnayake Joined Samuel, Sons & Company in February 1990 and served as a Project Engineer till December 1990.In December 1990, he joined the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and has served variously as Provincial Rehabilitation Engineer (Western Province South, Commercial Engineer (Schemes) – (Western Province South), Area Engineer (Dehiwala),Electrical Engineer (Distribution Planning) and Project Engineer (Distribution Project). He is currently the Chief Electrical Engineer, Chilaw Area at the CEB. He has been an active member of the IESL Wayamba Centre since 2007 and has contributed immensely to the success of the IESL Wayamba Centre by organizing Seminars, Study Tours, Wayamba Stall at the Techno 2011 Exhibition, etc.
Other office bearers elected at the AGM were Eng. Samitha M. Jayasinhe as Vice Chairman, Eng. Saman Piyasinghe as Senior Secretary, Eng. M.D.K Mahiti and Eng. B.V Indrapala as Joint Secretaries, Eng. S.M.B Dissanayake as Treasurer, Eng. D.M.B Dissanayake as Asst. Treasurer and Eng. M.I.M Irshad as Editor and Web Master. Also elected were Eng. R.A.H Rajamanthri (Past Chairman) as 1st Committee Member, Eng. Bandula Witharana (Past Chairman) as 2nd Committee Member, Eng. Salinda Bandara (Past Chairman) as 3rd Committee Member, Eng. Kapila Weerasooriya as 4th Committee Member, Eng. Kusum Priyananda as 5th Committee Member, Eng. Sunil Jayatissa as the 6th Committee Member, Eng. Nuwan Ariyawansa as 7th Committee Member, Eng. Sudesh Perera as 8th Committee Member and Eng. Sanjeewa Anil Kumara as the 10th Committee Member. Also appointed to the committee were Eng. P.V.J Fernando, Eng. Ramal A. Amadoru, Eng. Y.A C.R Kumara, Eng. Rasika Mallawaarachi, Eng. H.G.N.Nalin Pathirana, Eng. Krishantha Ranawake, Eng. M.J. Arulthasan and Eng. Gayan Alahakoon as members.
