During a history spanning over a hundred years, Thawalama Vidyaraja National School has produced several leading personalities in all walks of life; a rapid rise indeed from humble beginnings which saw it house only a single student.

The Vidyaraja National School was established in 1892 with only one student. Currently it holds classes from grades 1 to 13 with a capacity of 2500 students taught by more than 100 experienced staff, who have enabled Vidyaraja National School to contest along with the most reputed schools in the island.

Even though the stakeholders of the school faced various hardships, the commitment shown by various Principals as well as members of their staff, support staff and parents have helped propel the school to great heights and become a prominent education entity in the Galle district as well as the Southern Province.

Presently the school is acquiring a computer laboratory, a home science laboratory, a fully equipped library, a playground and an

aesthetic unit.

The present Principal, Prasad Prasanna Wickramasuriya Senevirathna, initiated a number of productive mechanisms to boost the school’s resources.

The students of Vidyaraja MMV excel in the extracurricular field as well. They have a talented group of athletes who bag many medals in Provincial and island-wide. They are much stronger in pole-vault where they annually emerge second or third places in the all island tournaments.

Led by its mission “to create a total personality to face all challenges” Vidyaraja MMV ensures that all its students strive to do their best and march forward.
