CID takes over fake money case

The Counterfeit Currency Detection Division of the Criminal Investigation Department has taken over investigations into the fake currency and documents case in Kandy. The detection at Kiribathkumbura was made by Inspector B.M.W.S. Chandrasekera and his team of the Kandy District Crimes and Operations Unit on information received by it.
After a search of the suspect’s residence at Katugastota, a computer, a scanner and a printer were taken into custody. Another suspect had been taken into custody and the Police team recovered Rs.171, 000 in counterfeit currency notes and 18 Rs.5, 000 genuine notes.
The Police also recovered fake national identity cards, passports, certificates and other documents which were being prepared illegally for transactions.
The two suspects were remanded by the Acting Kandy Magistrate Mahinda Liyange till January 10.
