Senior sub editor Peter passes away

Liyanage Peter Perera, a senior sub editor who worked for the Daily Mirror and the Island newspapers, passed away on Friday after a brief illness. He was 85.
Mr. Perera, a strong Trotskyite and social justice campaigner throughout his life, entered the world of journalism in the mid 1980s as a sub editor after being a school principal.
He served the Daily Mirror in the late 1990s before rejoining the Island.Cortege leaves residence No. 33A, 2nd Lane, Ratmalana to the St. Joseph the Worker Church, 4th Lane, Ratmalana at 3 p.m. today for a special requiem and then for the burial at Mt. Lavinia Cemetery, Roman Catholic Section at 4.30 p.m.
