New horizons in tech-entertainment
View(s):Shaastra 2013, the annual technical festival of IIT Madras, will be held from January 5to 8, 2013.
This edition is sure to surpass its predecessors with prizes worth Rs13 lakh and never-before-seen events like Shaastra Junior — aiming to give school students a taste of engineering; Ideas Challenge — set to tap into young minds for solutions to social problems and Exhibitions such as Research Expo — showcasing real innovations in various fields of engineering.
IIT-Madras’s very own research magazine, an initiative aimed at getting across the research work to the world, will also be released this year.
Apart from favourites such as Junkyard Wars, Fire N Ice and Robotics, the first ever completely student-organised Techno-Entertainment show, Envisage, aims to find the perfect blend of technology and popular entertainment. What do we expect from this novel idea? “Experience the music created without any instruments, sparks pulsating to music, LEDs dancing, boxes creating magic; overall a sparking atmosphere,” the coordinators respond excitedly.
Who says a technical festival cannot have a performance? Shaastra Nights this year will feature the Hungarian dance group ‘Freelusion’, whose performance is built up on a spectacular technological vision called 3D projection mapping. The entertainment is not restricted to ground. Air show will see fliers from as far as Hungary make RC planes dance to music. Ali Mashinchy, Gunther Gold and other internationally-acclaimed fliers will show off their manoeuvring skills in one of the most anticipated events of the festival.
“We took a box full of ideas; mixed it with ice of imagination, garnished it with enthusiasm and served on the plate of technical brilliance. Get your favourite flavour at Shaastra,” says the organising team. Shaastra 2013 will feature an open ground for everyone to race RC cars against each other and win exciting prizes.
Shaastra 2013 is set out to prove that entertainment is not restricted to dance, music or art, thus opening new horizons in tech-entertainment, which is just as captivating, if not more.
