Western Province South wins Prima Cup

Western Province South (WPS) beat Western Province North (WPN) by three wickets in a high scoring encounter to win the Prima Cup Inter-Provincial Under-15 cricket tournament final, which was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium last Saturday.
WPS’s win was initiated by their openers Avishka Fernando and Ravindu Sanjeewa who put on a valuable partnership of 73 runs. Avishka top scored with 89 runs off 109 balls inclusive of 11 boundaries and a six, while Ravindu made 26 from 36 balls. Middle-order batsman Lakshina Rodirgo hit a swift knock of 69 runs inclusive of four boundaries and five sixes. The trio helped their side chasing a formidable score of 267 for victory to reach the target with four overs to spare.
Earlier batting first, WPN made a challenging total of 266 runs for the loss of nine wickets. WPN was propelled by a spectacular knock from Malinga Amarasinghe which turned out to be in vain. WPS’s Lakshina Fernando was named the man-of-the-match.
The champion WPS side, captained by Mohamed Akram, had many promising players such as Avishka Fernando, Ravindu Sanjeewa, Lakshina Rodrigo, Sachin Umayanga, Vimukthi Ellegoda, Kusal Lakthilina, Senal de Silva, Ayantha de Silva, Thilan Nimesh and Praveen de Silva. WPN was captained by Charana Nanayakkara and also included Nisal Francisco, Thilina Dilshan, Sandaruwan Rodrigo, Malinga Amarasinghe, Shammu Ashan, K.A. Nissanka Poorna Charuka, Navod Kalansuriya, Rahal Avishka and Dileepa Jayalath.
