AIS Walk and Fun Fair 2012
View(s):Asian International School took Colombo by storm on the 16th of December, as a sea of students chanting “We’re from AIS!” participated in the first ever AIS Walk, showing the true strength and unity of the school.
The walk itself was a well organized, exciting affair, with a horse, floats, classic cars, and even a baby elephant joining in the procession. A drum float, featuring the musical talents of some very capable AIS students spiced up the atmosphere, whilst the “papare band” added to the infectious enthusiasm of the students. Another colourful float captured the various successful activities of the school in recent times.
The Walk culminated at the Navam Mawatha Open Air Arena, where dozens of stalls bedecked with fairy lights were waiting to welcome the walkers. The various games were a huge hit with the younger students with long lines at the target shooting stalls; and of course, the wide array of delicious food from pasta to cupcakes, only added to the thrill of the Fun Fair. Waffles, fish & chips and hot dogs never tasted so good! Another popular attraction was the famous “Teacup Ride” where old and young alike gathered for more shrieking and dizzying fun.
The general ambience at the Fair was captivating. The musical performances by the AIS Choir, MASH, and Shane featuring “the kkprojekt”, kept the crowd going; and the much anticipated DJ Play-Off, with 3 of AIS’s best and most talented DJs was an absolute hit. The rain did little to dampen the mood; if anything, it added to the fun, and was only escalated by the wildly popular “Water-Dunk”, run by the graduating class of 2012.
All in all, the inaugural AIS Walk & Fun Fair was a resounding success. Students, teachers, and well-wishers all left even happier, even more content than when they arrived, reveling in the knowledge that they were going to participate in this spectacular event, which was the initiator for the school’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations in 2014.
