Tony Greig moment
View(s):Last week we invited readers to send in their tributes and memories of Tony Greig and the following comments are some of those that were received by the Mirror Magazine.
My favourite Tony Greig quote, specially when Sanath Jayasuriya was batting:“Oh! Boy hes hit that like a rocket to the fence for four” RIP Sir Tony Greig (1946-2012) -Dilanka Liyanage
We met Tony Greig in 2010 in Dambulla during a Tri Nation Cricket Tournament. Incidentally we were staying at the same hotel and he wrote a nice comment in our autograph book. We remember how he enjoyed a drink of pineapple juice with our family. We were shocked to hear of his death in the newspaper, we really miss him. He was a good commentator and kept the game going. -Ashwin and Rashomi Mathanan (11 and 9 years)

May his soul rest in peace. Tony Greig will be missed by cricket fans around the world, but his sunhat will never be forgotten! -Pravin
Your commentaries will resonate for years to come. Thank you for re-inventing cricket commentary and making it so entertaining. Thank you also for your unwavering support for the SL team, and for getting to know our players so very well, and always sharing some interesting tit bits with the audience. You will be surely missed, as watching a SL match will never be the same again. Rest in Peace Tony Greig!

England were hammered unmercifully by the Aussies and Windies in the late 70’s, including under Tony Greig. However, England should be grateful to Tony Greig for bringing back respectability to the England side, even though England lost the series, both to the Aussies and the Windies. Under Mike Dennes England lost without dignity. Under Tony Greig England lost but with dignity.
Great Captain with confidence and determination.

A real gentleman who loved Sri Lankan Cricket. A real blow to us. – Keerthi Wijesinghe
I always liked his style of speaking and writing. He expressed his views in a plain, easy-to-understand manner. I am sure many people with an average knowledge of English managed to understand him and they liked to listen to him!

Great cricketer, commentator and a reader of the game who was a among the pioneering few who introduced innovative restricted over versions of the game, bringing more crowd support to the sport. Tony’s contribution to world cricket
administration and guidance given to youngsters during his great career accounts for a heavenly victory.
