TID arrests TNA Jaffna district MP’s close associate
View(s):Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Kilinochchi district organiser and Jaffna district MP K. Sritharan’s close associate A. Velamahilathan was arrested by the Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) last evening in Kilinochchi, police said.
The arrest came a day after the army arrested another supporter of Mr. Sritharan, a businessman, in Jaffna, and handed him over to the TID.
Police said on information reportedly provided by the businessman, the district organiser was arrested.
Police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said the businessman, when arrested, had low intensity explosives in his three-wheeler.
However, MP Sritharan told the Sunday Times in early December, that his police security was removed on the instructions of the Defence Ministry and that he had written to the Speaker about his security. However, he had not received a response to date.
He said he was in Colombo and had been informed that his office had been searched and his computers and files checked by police.
