Vidyartha to seek legal assistance
View(s):Parents of rugby players and old boys of Vidyartha College Kandy were delayed in filing a case against the Sri Lanka Schools Ruby Football Union due to the current action of lawyers to not appear in courts. According to sources of the school, action will be filed early this week.
While not contesting the decision of suspension they claim the relegation is not fair, not reasonable and constitutes unequal treatment. Vidyartha were earlier found guilty of player impersonation during the schools Division 1 ‘A’ tournament. The schools section found no cause for action following an inquiry conducted by them. The Ministry of Education however found the allegation by Isipathana College to be correct.
The Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) then slapped a one year ban on Vidyartha, and asked them to start from Division 2 C, after serving the ban. Subsequently the Executive Committee decided to revoke the one-year ban imposed consequent to an appeal made by the school and also allowed them start in Division 2 A.
Vidyartha believe that the competition at this level is very low and is denying the right of students, not involved, the opportunity to compete in a sport of their choice and to their standard.D.S. Senanayake continues to has raise objection against St. Anthony’s, who fielded a player that had been sent off with a red card and as per schools tournament rules, has to automatically serve a ban of two matches. D.S. Senanayake supporters believe that the schools section has released the player from serving the ban and the issue has not been subject to a proper disciplinary inquiry. – VP
