Yohan grabs eight as Dharmasoka MV dominate

Right arm spinner Yohan de Silva impressed with a return of 8 for 28 as Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda dominated their Under 19 cricket encounter against Mahinda College Galle concluded at the Training College ground in Balapitiya yesterday.
Yohan’s eight wicket haul helped Dharmasoka MV bowl out Mahinda to a low score of 97. The opening days play saw Dharmasoka MV taking first lease of the wicket making 157.
Dharmasoka MV batting the second time going for quick runs made 156 for 5 declared from 35 overs. Mahinda chasing a target of 217 runs ended the day on 108 for 4.
Zahira came out on top against Maris Stella in their drawn match which ended at Maradana yesterday. Maris Stella resuming from their overnight score of nine for no loss, lost wickets at regular intervals and was restricted to a score of 138 with skipper Waseem Sinnen taking 4 for 20.
This was in reply to the modest score of 194 made by Zahira on the opening day. The score came on the back of a fine knock of 91 by Shehan Weerasinghe who added a valuable 124 runs stand for the seventh wicket with Irshad Umar who chipped in with 27.The match between St. Peter’s and St. Sebastian’s was poised for an interesting finish when play ended on day one at Bambalapitiya yesterday. Sebs right arm pacie Avishka Fernando’s five wicket haul saw St Peter’s batting being bundled out for 73. But Peterite left arm spinner Julian de Zylva led his side’s fight back with a four wicket haul and was supported by Krishan Fernando and Chemila Obeysekera who both shared six wickets to restrict their opponents for a score of 104.
St. John’s was set for the kill in their match against Piliyandala Central played at Piliyandala. Piliyandala Central was shot for a meager 37 by St. John’s Nugegoda which took them 23.2 overs.
St. John’s in their turn made 171 for 8 declared with Yamal Siriwardena making a quick fire 55 in 50 balls with nine boundaries and a six. Piliyandala Central batting the second with a deficit of 134 runs were 10 for 1 needing a further 124 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
