China Navigation Co. appoints Ceyline Shipping as ‘manning agents’ in Sri Lanka
View(s):Sri Lanka’s Ceyline Group was recently appointed ‘manning agents’ for China Navigation Company (CNCo) providing Sri Lankan seafarers an opportunity to join a traditional shipping company.
CNCo is the deep-sea ship-owning and operating arm part of the giant, Hong Kong-based conglomerate SWIRE Group.
CNCo was founded in 1872 in Shanghai and started its operations trading on China’s Yangtze river. Since then the company has expanded globally while its primary operational focus remains in the Asia-Pacific region.
The company operates a global network of multi-purpose liner services for the transportation of containerised, breakbulk, heavylift and project cargoes in addition to providing dry bulk and bulk logistics services.
”A manning agent is the intermediary between the employer (Principal/Ship owner) and the seafarer. The main role of a manning agent is to provide suitable candidates for the crew manager to employ,” Ceyline said in a statement.
CNCo currently owns and operates a fleet of 18 container, multipurpose, general cargo and dry bulk ships. In addition approximately 10 ships are chartered-in and operated on CNCo’s owned liner services.
Swire Shipping’s fleet of multi-purpose vessels is capable of carrying a wide range of general / unitized cargoes (including heavy and bulky project lifts), break-bulk parcels (steels, forest products), bulk parcels as well as containerized cargoes (general and refrigerated).
