SriLankan Airlines sets up child Psychiatric Unit at LRH
View(s):SriLankan Airlines’ CSR arm ‘SriLankan Cares’, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Health and the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) to upgrade and convert Ward Five of the LRH, to a Child Psychiatric facility. This will be the first dedicated, multi-disciplinary Child Psychiatric Unit in Sri Lanka, according to an airline statement.
The MOU signing ceremony took place at the Health Ministry premises and the signatories were the airline’s Chief Executive Officer – Kapila Chandrasena, Health Ministry Secretary – Dr Y. D. Nihal Jayathilaka and LRH’s Director – Dr Rathnasiri A. Hewage. The project which is estimated to cost around Rs 8 million will be funded by the SriLankan Cares Trust which already has completed several projects on its concept of ‘The Empowerment of Children’. The work pertaining to design, renovation and refurbishment of an old building will begin soon and is expected to be completed in four to six months. SriLankan Cares will hand over a completely renovated ward, complete with necessary furniture to the management of the LRH and continue to monitor its usage and progress, it said. ‘This is our initial project in the area of child health care which we hope to expand to a wider national level, as the airline grows and progresses,” said Mr. Chandrasena.
