Senior management post graduate qualification now at HRMI
View(s):In January 2012, Human Resource Management Institute (HRMI) introduced to Sri Lanka the EDEXCEL BTEC Level 7 Post Graduate Professional Qualification ‘Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership’. This has been defined by UK’s Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) as a Post Graduate Professional Qualification equivalent to the first year of a two year Masters Degree enabling the holders to pursue a MBA with exemptions. Commenting on this programme, HRMI Director, Mr Gihan Talgodapitiya described this qualification as an ideal programme to equip senior and middle managers to go beyond functional management and take-up top-management responsibilities. It is also an interesting course of studies for senior military officers planning to move into corporate sector as the course content provides detailed insights into the role of a senior manager / CEO.
The curriculum of the Strategic Management & Leadership Post Graduate course includes complete spectrum of subjects essential to give a comprehensive knowledge base at senior management level. It includes, (1) Strategic Planning (2) Strategic Change Management (3) Strategic Marketing Management (4) Strategic Human Resource Management (5) Strategic Supply Chain Management & Logistics (6) Creative and Innovative Management (7) Strategic Management and Leadership and (8) Professional Development for Strategic Managers. The Assessment Criteria involves Assignments, Projects & Case Analysis, which Edexcel believes is a better form of assessment at senior management level compared to the traditional examination method.
Currently there are over 50 students pursuing the Edexcel Level 7 programme with HRMI. These students come from many different organisations and professional backgrounds. Amongst the current students are General Managers from Five Star Hotels, Senior Bankers, functional Managers from major apparel exporters, Media Directors, International School Principals, Senior Pilots from Airlines, top officials from UN Agencies and NGOs, entrepreneurs and several senior expatriates working in multinational companies. They represent an array of functional disciplines which includes Finance, Marketing, Manufacturing, IT, Insurance and HR.
