View(s):34th Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013
The most anticipated, 34th Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013 kicked off from January 1, with Thurstan College cricketer Minhaj Jaleel racing away to take an unassailable lead, after the counting of coupons in first two weeks.
Jaleel has received an impressive tally of 2002 votes, a clear lead of 1467 votes ahead of Richmond College’s A.K. Tyron. Jaleel is likely to enjoy a blissful time ahead unless challenged by his closest rivals in weeks to come. With the narrow margins that are seen, the battle among rest of the contenders is most likely to intensify in days to come, making the competition healthier.
The Emerging category at the moment has five contenders in fray and Deshan Dhananjaya of Rahula Matara is holding the grip of this segment. But other contenders too have all possibilities to turn tables and end up as a winner. The International Schools category is solely dominated by Walid Jiffry of Leighton Park who is yet to be challenged.Coupons of the 34th Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013 will appear on Wijeya Newspaper’s dailies, the Daily Mirror and Lankadeepa and also its weekend English issue, the Sunday Times. Readers will be able to send in as much as coupons in favour of their favourite schoolboy cricketer until the deadline which is May 30.
