The newly-refurbished, Kingsbury, which is the former Ceylon Continental, currently operates just one floor with 26 rooms. The rest of its facilities and rooms will be opened in due course, the hotel’s management said.

Kingsbury’s CEO Otto N. Stohl told the Business Times that currently they had only one floor in operation and “are going to add another floor within the next couple of days.”

He noted that it would take “till the beginning of March” for all of their rooms to be opened. Currently, the hotel has only opened its Executive floor. The hotel would have 229 rooms when completed.

The hotel’s Corporate Communications and Public Relations Manager Dinithi Somaratne said they would open the rest of the rooms for Superior, Deluxe and Presidential suite as and when the floors would be completed.

Other facilities like the hotel’s pool, spa and gymnasium were also under construction and bookings were accepted after briefing guests about these, it was pointed out.

Kingsbury opened last month to meet the demand from advanced bookings made with the hotel for hosting weddings, Ms. Somaratne explained citing this as the reason for opening up the hotel inspite of the inadequate facilities.

Its restaurants, Ocean serving seafood, the Harbour Court and Al Fresco with a dining area outside are fully operational. The King’s lobby bar was also in operation but its Chinese restaurant and the Sky Lounge on the uppermost floor were yet to be opened, Ms. Somaratne said.

Another addition to the hotel, the Gourmet Station serving a miscellaneous range of items for guests and visitors to purchase from was also currently under construction.

The hotel underwent a major refurbishment drive to upgrade its facilities to suit modern standards with an investment of Rs.1.8 billion.
