Sorry side of tourism
View(s):
Our photographer Nilan Maligaspe captured these tourists at the Polonnaruwa Chaithya finding it cumbersome to bend over and read the inscription and details of the site on a blurred board placed on the ground. Tourists are charged exorbitant entrance and other additional fees at cultural sites, including a charge to store their footwear, making Sri Lanka one of the most expensive places in the region for excursions. Basic facilities are lacking and maintenance is poor at these sites where in some places dirty cement bags and sand are thrown all over.
