However, having identified the dearth of professionally qualified Teachers for Montessori and Primary Education. Mr.G.T.Bandara, Chairman / Managing Director of Royal Institute introduced the Diploma in Montessori and Primary Education programme in the year 2009 which has become very popular and effective.

A total of 160 participants have already passed out since the introduction of the course. The 5th batch of 33 participants who received their training during the year 2012 just passed out achieving impressive results, one with Honours, 9 Distinctions, 16 with Credits and 7 Passes.

The graduation ceremony of the 5th batch was held at the Auditorium of Royal Institute International School in Maharagama on 20th January 2013 where the graduates were awarded their Diploma certificates as well as Red Cross Society’s certificate on basic training in First Aid, by the Chief Guest of the occasion, Mr.G.T.Bandara.

This one year part-time Diploma course drawn up on the AMI Montessori Method of Education, early Childhood Education, Teaching Methodology and Child Psychology also includes training in First Aid conducted by the Red Cross Society of Sri Lanka. The 2013 batch will also get a new component in childhood behaviour / Illness. All participants are also provided internships at Royal Institute branch schools.

While all successful Diploma students have opportunities to seek employment locally or abroad. It is heartening to note that some of them who just passed out have already found employment in the education sector.
As the new Diploma in Montessori and Primary Education course has just commenced, prospective students are yet able to join in order to obtain a valuable qualification to carve out a career in teaching.
