Minhaj consolidates his position
View(s):34th Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013
Thurstan College cricketer Minhaj Jaleel further consolidated his lead as the 34th Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013 competition reached its second week.
Jaleel nearly doubled his total tally, expanding his lead further by an addition of 1698. With this development Jaleel’s lead against second-placed A.K. Tyron of Richmond College Galle too expanded by a huge deficit of 3152 votes.
With Jaleel’s top spot secured for the moment, the battle for the respective slots from the second place will intensify as the cricketers maintain gaps that are too slender and vulnerable in a competition of this nature. The competition is sure to get more vibrant as weeks move on with Tyron, Trinity’s Dinuka Wickramanayake, Madawa Nimesh of Royal Panadura, St. Peter’s Dushan Hemantha and Jason Buultjens possessing all the abilities to swap places and even reach the top. The notable changes for this week were place changes of Sachin Bulathsinhala of St. Anthony’s Katugastota took the place of Cambrian Kusal Mendis and Royal Colombo skipper Devin Pathmanathan losing his place to Roshan Anuruddha of Gurukula Kelaniya.
In the Emerging category Lahiru Vimukthi of Sri Sumangala Panadura made a sudden rise by two slots from the bottom of five contenders as Deshan Dhananjaya of Rahula Matara still holds the leadership. Dhananjaya’s place presently can be considered as safe but his rivals have all the possibilities to turn tables and end up as leader. The International Schools category for the second week running is solely occupied by Walid Jiffry of Leighton Park who is yet to receive any rivalry.
