‘Les Miserables’ makes its way
View(s):The motion-picture adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe ‘Les Misérables’ will be released at Majestic Superior Cinema soon.
Nominated for seven Academy awards, the film is directed by ‘ The King’s Speech’s’ Academy Awarded filmmaker Tom Hooper.
Based on the musical of the same name by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg which is in turn based on Les Misérables, the 1862 French novel by Victor Hugo,
The Working Title and Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried in the main roles Jean Valjean, Javert, Fantine and Cosette.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
The Ex-convict Jean Valjean becomes mayor of a town in France but is soon exposed and starts to runaway as a fugitive to avoid being captured again by police inspector Javert. The plot spans 17 years and is set against a backdrop of political turmoil, which in the film culminates in the June Rebellion of France.
The epic musical by Victor Hugo touts three Golden Globe wins, a SAG Award, nine Bafta nominations and eight Academy Awards nods including best supporting actress for Anne Hathaway and best actor for Hugh Jackman. It was named Best Musical or comedy while Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway claimed acting prizes.
