Comes the newest book written by young writer Nuwan Nayanajith Kumara, the book launch will be held under the patronage of Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association at the BMICH.

Known as the man who brought about a transformation to the local film industry in 1972 as the founder Chairman of the National Film Corporation (NFC), Dr. Nihalsinghe also recreated the history of Sri Lankan cinema becoming the Senior Fellow in Film and Television from the University of Kelaniya.

An award -winning filmmaker, experienced editor and versatile cinematographer, Dr. Nihalsinghe is known as an all-rounder in cinema and television.

Nayanajith’s book also serves as biography of the film expert as well as a careful study of his research and a critical approach to his service to the field of arts. Nihalsinghe is one of the few talented filmmakers, a superior cameraman, high class administrator in the cinema industry, a pioneer in introducing new technology, a teacher who produced local and international cinema and a professional in television medium. Nuwan Nayanajith Kumara analyses Nihalsinghe’s vivid roles critically and presents as a research study.

The book contains and establishes the yeomen service rendered by Nihalsinghe as the pioneer who introduced cinemascope film technology to Asia. The first cameraman who used hand camera for film shooting in the Asian region and first creator who introduced colour teledramas to Sri Lanka.

Nihalsinghe’s parents are veteran journalist and renowned teacher D.B. Dhanapala, famous artist and sculptor Rathi Dhanapala. His brother is a veteran artist who ventured new vistas in the silent art D.B. Suranimala, their biographies and critical views are included in this volume. Professor J.B. Dissanayake Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne, veteran director Tissa Liyanasooriya, and veteran cameraman H.D. Mahindapala are to briefly address the gathering on the book.
