Hameed Al Husseinie College put on a footballing clinic as they orchestrated a 5-0 demolition of Hindu College, Colombo, to book a final berth in the Group of ‘80s Hameed Al Husseinie All Island Inter School Invitation Football tournament, after action at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
The star of the game was N.C.M Rahuman, who was in sublime touch and demonstrated this with four spectacular goals brimming with creativity, intelligence and skill. M. Arshan was Hameed Al Husseinie’s other scorer on a day when they could do no wrong.
The match was effectively sealed and delivered well before halftime, after the competition’s hosts had netted in four goals. Hameed Al Husseinie were off the blocks in a flash and wasted no time in stating their intentions with some penetrating runs and absolutely scintillating ball control.
It seemed only a matter of time before Hindu College would crumble, and in the fourth minute of the game they duly obliged, allowing Rahuman deep into their territory before he scorched the back of the net.
Seven minutes later and he ripped their hearts out again, this time though through no fault of their own. In a moment of magic, Rahuman dodged his way past his covering defender and blasted a long-range strike that sailed into the top corner of Hindu College’s goal.
He was not even close to being done tormenting his opponents though, and in the 21st minute he proved that his first strike from distance was no fluke. Once again, upon finding himself with space to pull the trigger, he let fly with another screamer that clinched his hat-trick.
Although the match was now comfortably within Hameed Al Husseinie’s clutches they were in no mood to stop tightening the screws on Hindu College. With halftime mere minutes away, M. Arshan latched onto a probing pass near the penalty area and whipped home his school’s fourth goal.
It had been a frighteningly commanding performance by the boys from Hameed Al Husseinie, and they ended it aptly with an imperious note from their hat-trick hero. Finding himself free to run in acres of space, Rahuman slotted in his fourth in the game’s dying moments to end Hindu College’s misery and launch his school’s celebration. Hameed Al Husseinie will meet Lumbini College in the finals on February 10 after they beat St. Benedict’s College 3-2 in their semifinal match.
