My favourite singer

My favourite singer is Michael Jackson. He was born in 1958 in Los Angeles, America. From his small age itself, he learned to dance and sing. As he grew, he became very famous around the world.

The world called him the ‘King of Pop’. He was really famous when he did the ‘Moonwalk’ too. He has made a collection of albums. A few of his most popular songs are, ‘Thriller’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Man in the Mirror’, and ‘Heal the World’.

Unfortunately, he left this world in June 2009 but I will always love my favourite singer very much.

My grandmother turned 80

My grandmother’s name is Mrs. Chandra Fernando. Her birthday was on January 8. Her father had been a Station Master and when she was a young girl her mother passed away. Still she studied very well and became a teacher at Ananda Balika Vidyalaya.

My grandmother has a good memory. She can still remember the poems that she learnt when she was in Grade One. My grandmother likes to cook and teach. She has eaten all kinds of food and by eating some things she can tell what the ingredients are!

My grandmother has two children and three grandchildren. She is very proud of her grandchildren. She loves to see my articles published in the paper. She goes to the temple everyday. She gives money to all the beggars who come to her. Wherever she goes, she carries all the house keys in her handbag.

I love her and she loves me.

Bringing up a pet

Bringing up a pet isn’t easy at all. It’s like bringing up a baby. We must feed and pet it and when it’s a little bit grown, we can train it to do this and that. We must always see that our pet gets lots of attention.

Do remember that keeping your pet clean is most important too. Don’t always try to feed it. Make a timetable and work as it says. Give your pet a lot of exercise so it won’t get ill all the time.

Now when you’re going to put a name, it must be suitable to your pet. Take your pet to a vet and see how your pet is. Is it healthy or unhealthy? It’s up to you.

My school

My school is Minhal International Boys’ School. It is situated in Wellawatte. There are classes from Montessori to Advanced Level. There are about 500 students and 50 teachers.

We have Cricket and Karate in our school. It is a three storey building with many classes. We have good teachers in our school. I am in Grade Four and my class teacher’s name is Ms. Shabra. She teaches us English, Maths and Science. We follow the Cambridge syllabus. Our school students have produced good results at exams.

I am proud to be a student of Minhal and I wish my school a very good future. I love my school very much.

An angel in disguise

Life is not a race but a journey to be savoured each step of the way. Throughout the 16 years
I’ve tread of life, there is one special person who influenced me the most.

My mentor and pillar of strength, my guardian and my protector – none other than my everlasting brother – my Aiya.
Whenever I was thrown out by life’s challenges, the person who would hold my hand and take me right through it, who taught me right from wrong, who was beside me through thick and thin, was none other than my Aiya and I am so proud to be his beloved Nanga.

I think that all the crazy, stupid fun and amazing times that we shared together as brother and sister should last a kifetime.

Aiya, thank you for being there for me when I needed you the most, for not letting me go despite all my faults, for guiding and protecting me and most of all for being a true brother. For without you, I’d definitely be lost.

My only wish is that the two of us never be separated no matter what the circumstances may be.
