Former Sylvestrian, Kandy SC player and one of the leading referees in Sri Lanka, Aruna Rankothge was appointed to the Asian Rugby
Football Union (ARFU) panel for 2013. Rankothge is a consistent performer as a referee who has been in the ARFU A and B panels for the last nine years.
His ample experience and exposure in the Asian region has helped him gain entry into the ARFU panel once more. Rankothge has officiated at many international tournaments in China, Singapore, Kazakhstan, India, Thailand, South Korea, Dubai, Philippines and Indonesia. He was also one of the leading referees at the Carlton Rugby Sevens and his last assignment was at the Junior Rugby Asiad last year in Colombo. Rankothge also holds a level III certificate, which he obtained in Dubai and the Philippines.
Priyantha Gunaratne and Irshard Carder (development referee) were the other two to be selected to this year’s ARFU panel from Sri Lanka.
