D.S. Senanayake College celebrates 46th birthday

Senanayake College Colombo 07 a trend setter among the education institutes in Sri Lanka celebrated its 46th Birthday on the 10th of February 2013 at the College premises with the participation of many religious devotees, parents, children and well wishers with an All night “Pirith ceremony” to invoke blessings to the school and bring peace to the nation. It was followed by an armsgiving to the members of the clergy and religious activities of all communities took place at the school premises.
D.S. Senanayake College one of the premiere educational institutes in Sri Lanka with a short span of history of 46 years was established on the 10th February 1967 under the stewardship of Mr. R.I.T. Alles. The school gained many achievements of excellence both in the academic and non academic fields locally and internationally. It is proud as a truly multi ethnic, multi religious college which has proudly created an unblemished and prestigious record of excellence in academic, sport and community leadership of highly innovative and patriotic individuals to the mother land.

Today we being a school with a short span of history of 46 years is one of the leading National schools in the Island with a strict disciplined environment. So achieving our vision is a positive goal for us says the principal.
The great success of D.S. Senanayake College is the rapid growth of the school in such a short period. It is a parent built school as all funds for development work is contributed by the parents. This is the only school in Sri Lanka that has reached great heights in academic and extra curricular activities during a short period from its inception.
As new projects for the school in 2013, @ The ultra modern state of art college hall will be completed in April 2013. @All languages and spoken English skills will be developed by teachers skilled in languages. This is essential today for the children to develop brotherhood with all communities.@The science laboratory will be developed with ultra sound multi media units.@The college grounds will be upgraded with more facilities to encourage more children to take part in sports.@ The facilities in the library will be further developed to inculcate the habit of reading among children@ More staff development programme will be done with the objective of developing unity among them.@ Educational results improving programme will be undertaken for scholarship, GCE O/L, and GCE A/L exams.@ The school will undertake special emphasis to develop under priviledged schools in remote areas with the participation of OBA and school development society.
The primary sector of the school which is categorized by the ministry of education as a model primary is one of the best in the island. The environment of the primary school has been upgraded with landscape and ecofriendly surroundings in the school.Vegetable cultivation to teach the children the importance of planting fruit trees has been given prominence in line with ministry of education regulations.We have set forth our plans to develop the primary to the standard of reputed international schools.
On the 46th Birthday message to the parents the principal stated that the school would focus it’s attention on a new 5 year plan for the development of Academic and extra curricular activates.
With the implementation of the plan, D.S. Senanayake College will not be second to any leading school in the island in producing not only good results in studies, but also in sports. Last year we implemented the Japanese 5s concept.It has helped the school in productive education, consistent quality, cost effectiveness,accuracy in delivery, safe for teachers to work and high in morale..As times change we have to produce citizens to cater to the needs of the dynamic environment not merely book worms. With the active participation of the OBA and school development society the new Japanese concept will take its way to improve efficiency in all school activities says the principal.
We will not leave any stone unturned to achieve our objective stated Mr.D.M.D. Dissanayake. The school has made many changes in administration to allow more parent participation in all development activities. The parent and teacher participation in implementing the new education reforms is essential for its success.
D.S. Senanayake College Colombo 07 has all the facilities for the children, swimming pool, gymnasium, playground, state of Art IT room, A state of art refurbished college hall under construction to accommodate 3000 people in the heart of the city of its best premises.
The grand vision of the school in the year 2020 includes an old boy occupying a leadership position in the UNO, producing a scientific inventor and probably an Olympic medalist.
The vision gives prominence to sports and science as essentials for the future. There in no such word called impossible in our school vocabulary says the principal Mr.D.M.D. Dissanayake.
