Kithulampitiya Ananda Maha Vidyalaya is a well known school in the Southern Province for its excellence in academic and extracurricular activities. Since the inception Ananda M.V. has produced many valuable people to the nation and continues to do so.
Ananda M.V. is situated in Kithulampitiya, Galle, 5 acres in extent on a beautiful hill among the lush greenery with blooming flowers. More than 600 students and 50 academic staff pursue their classroom studies, and co-curricular interests. The Present Principal of the School, Mr. U. Hewamalage, who was born on September 15, 1963 began his teaching career at H/Sooryawewa Central College as a Commerce graduate. While being a teacher he passed the Sri Lanka Educational Administration Service Class III in 1993.
This school was initiated in 1942 by venerable Pannananda Thero. Ananda Vidyalaya experienced a fantastic development along with the construction of several new buildings which increased the possibility of producing the intellectuals to the country during the period of Dr. Richard Pathirana who was the Education and Higher Education Minister during 1994 to 2000.

The Computer Unit
Seventy years has passed after establishing this school. At present, the school stands with all its majesty, with many facilities. There is a well equipped library, a modern computer lab and commerce and arts sections for G.C.E (A/L).
Library facilities are made available to all and reading is encouraged with the allocation of a library period in the Time-table. Their spacious Library is fully equipped with the latest books, periodicals and compact discs.
Modern technology has been increased and the students have to be well prepared to face the future challenges of new technology. The IT Club of Kithulampitya Ananda Maha Vidyalaya was established in 2008. Now they have a fully equipped computer lab with 18 computers and 2 printers donated by SEMP. Today, they have around 50 active members in our club and all the activities based on IT and Computer technologies are handled by them. It gives opportunity to IT skills of the students and teachers in the school, through these resources. Providing free internet facilities is an extra

opportunity given by this unit. Designing the school web site is one of the greatest achievements of this unit. Annually, they organise IT Day to encourage their students to get used to new technology.
There has been a remarkable improvement in the examination results over the past five years. At the G.C.E. (O/L) exam 57% have qualified to follow Advanced Level studies and many of them get through the G.C.E.(A/L) with remarkable results.
Many extracurricular activities including Scouting, Media Unit, Eastern & Western Bands and more keep adding glamour to the School in various ways.
The College Eastern Band
Special emphasis is given to the teaching of the English language, keeping in mind the fact that English could be a powerful factor in giving the child a wider outlook and confidence to move in modern society. The teaching programme includes training in Speech, in addition to Courses prescribed by the Ministry of Education. They have also introduced Literature and reading through a reading programme conducted during school hours.
With the physical and human resources the college is trying to reach the top, and all good wishes should be with them to strengthen the college to have many victories and to produce well disciplined and educated citizens to lead the country for years to come.
