A day at Galle Face

On a bright and a free Sunday
We went to Galle Face
To fly my little kite
and at the sea to gaze
Laughing loudly and merrily
on the open space
Running about freely
at our own pace

I watched the ships sailing
far out at sea
Seated comfortably
under the shade of
a coconut tree
I had great fun and the day
filled me with glee
It is a relaxing place
So wonderful to be

My school

My school is Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda. It is one of the Buddhist Schools in Sri Lanka. It has a long history. It was founded in 1965 by the Late Mr. Linton Kuruppu. Sujatha Vidyalaya has a good netball team. Our principal is Mrs. Malani Abesekara Dissanayake. Our school has about 1000 students.

It is a girls’ school and I love my school very much.

My best friend

My best friend is my mother, the woman who gave me life. She is all the world to me because everything she does for me is through sincere love and care which she doles out each day from the time I wake up in the morning, not only to me but to every member of the family which includes our dog and cat.

I tell her if anything troubles me, all my girly secrets, I share with her. She is always ready with the right advice and guides me over the rough patches. Oh! I like to say that my mother is my best friend. She is my friend in good times and bad times, ever ready in giving and sharing love and friendship, never expecting anything in return. She who works so hard to keep us comfortable, healthy and secure, my mother, the queen of our home, with a welcoming smile and love shinning from her eyes.

I am a member in my school library. I borrow books from the library and from my friends. I have a mini library at home too. I spend my leisure time reading books. My other favourite books are ‘Witches’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘The Twits’. I buy books from the bookshops and the book exhibition too. Reading is a very good habit.

The Prefects Investiture of our school

The Prefect’s Investiture of our school, Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena was held on January 11 in the school hall. The theme for this year was ‘Impossibility is something which we have not yet learnt’. The event began at 9 a.m., welcoming the Chief Guest Rev. Bro. Kamal Perera. The traditional oil lamp was lit by the chief guest and distinguished guests. The welcome speech was given by the former official prefect. Then the past board of prefects handed over the flags to the new board of prefects. After that there was a prayer service and the badges were blessed. The new prefects took their oath, followed by the teachers pinning the badges.

The chief guest gave a speech on leadership. He said that we should work together as a team and strive to reach the impossible. He stressed that we should guide the others but not boss around. He pointed out that we should do the duties entrusted to us and be responsible as we are part of the smooth running of our school activities.

Then the certificates were distributed to the outgoing prefects in appreciation of the services rendered by them. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Head Prefect Heliza Rodrigo. The day came to an end by singing the School Song and the National Anthem. This was a special day when leadership was given to the young shepherdesses following the greatest Shepherd Jesus Christ.
