The most positive and result oriented encounter among big matches could be the annual Joe-Pete encounter. Even at this 79th Battle of the Saints will surely promise a thrill-fill clash this year when it is played on March 1 and 2 at the P. Sara Oval.

In the past five years this encounter has yielded three results. This comes as a result of the officials of both institutions deciding to restrict the first innings to 60 overs.

This decision has prompted more results than any other big-matches.

When it comes to team strengths St. Peter’s could have a slight advantage with the healthy record from the schools first XI season. From 15 encounters, the Peterites have won five games whereas the Josephians have managed to secure two wins in 14 games. But the Darley Road boys maintain an unbeaten record while the Peterites have lost a game to St. Sebastians.

St. Joseph’s possess the advantage of having in-form batsmen in Dylan Fernandopulle (660), Sadeera Samarawickrama (641) and skipper Sachin Hewawasam 446).

Hewawasam also leads as the best choice for a bowler after accumulating 42 wickets while Priyamal Perera (37) and Moditha Weerasinghe (35) too can come in handy at the big match.
