Lankem Agro wins cleaner production award
View(s):Lankem Agro was a recipient of the Cleaner Production Bronze Award in the medium category organised by the state’s National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC), at a ceremony held last week in Colombo.
In receiving this award Mr. Damith Vitharana, Director/COO Lankem Agro said cleaner production is motivated by environmental imperatives but it also makes economic sense as it increases production efficiency while minimising waste and emissions.
Lankem Agro is part of Lankem Ceylon which has 25 subsidiaries and works in nine major industries.
The company factory which was initially located in Ekala has been the recipient of several merit awards such as the National Quality Award, National Safety Award, Industrial Safety Award and an Silver Award from the NCPC to name a few. The subsequent relocation of the factory has led to a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in the Makandura Industrial Zone.
The NCPC was established in 2002 by UNIDO. The aim is to assist industries to operate more efficiently with minimum harm to the environment. Cleaner Production (CP) also known as Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) is the tool promoted by NCPC to assist industries to achieve this goal.
