Asian Aviation Center launches Aerospace for All
View(s):A unique programme that enables youngsters to learn more about naval, aeronautical and space engineering
If one takes the time to speak to any young child today and ask them what their ambitions are, it is certain that at least 80% of them would say ‘to be a pilot’. Sky is the limit for these young minds, who have their eyes set on this high-flying career. Unfortunately, when people speak of aerospace careers, the only career that comes to mind is ‘pilot’, but there are so many other options that are available today. It is with this objective in mind that the Asian Aviation Center recently launched a program that is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. “Aerospace for All” is designed for teenagers to give them a better idea of all things related to the field. Many of them know about the career but they do not have sufficient knowledge of the skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to succeed in that career.
The Asian Aviation Centre (Pvt) Limited, the premier aerospace engineering and flying training academy in Sri Lanka affiliated to the Kingston University London, United Kingdom and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, held the inauguration of ‘The Aerospace for All Course 2013 ’Sri Lankas only Aerospace programme for all Aviation lovers, on Tuesday the 26th of February 2013 at the largest hangar complex at Colombo Airport, Ratmalana. The aim of introducing this program to youngsters of Sri Lanka interested in vehicles and machinery, is that they gain a deeper, practical knowledge of the theoretical lessons. Hence students will be able to make an informed decision when it comes to their career options. An example of practical applications of knowledge is that many students learn about Archimede’s principle in school but with Aerospace For All, they will be able to see how this theory translates into technology that affects our everyday lives.
The program is spread over a duration of three months, with lessons for two days a week. The program is conducted in English and teaches students about technologies in use, literally, from the bottom of the ocean to space. Topics covered include the aviation industry, Satellite sensors & Satellites, Space vehicles & Space travel, Rockets, Helicopters, Aircraft, Land vehicles & Lighter than air vehicles, Hovercrafts, Special types of ships and Submarines. The programme will give the youngsters a complete and comprehensive introduction to the world of aerospace. This program will support the aviation loving teenagers to identify the opportunities available for them in the aerospace industry which is on a fast-paced growth with the development of science and air travel technology. The program is geared to cater for students who have completed their Ordinary Level or Advanced level examinations. The program will be a popular attraction for the young generation as it provides a great deal of practical exposure of the science they learn in school.
