The Revelations thrill audiences at ‘Hearts in Concert’
View(s):The Revelations wowed the audience with pure talent and ingenious musical arrangements at Hearts in Concert, held at the Bishop’s College Auditorium on February 9 and 10 in support of the Children’s Heart Project. The all-male acapella group thrilled audiences with their choice of songs and the creative ways in which they delivered the night’s programme. The evergreen sounds of John Lennon and the Everly Brothers were rekindled when a medley took fans from the song ‘Imagine’ to ‘All I have to do is dream’. Other favourites were Charlie Chaplin’s heartwarming ‘Smile’, Ronny Macdowell’s classic ‘Older women make good lover’s’ and the Clarence Wijewardena medley.
One of the highlights of the Concert came when the director of the Revelations solemnly stated that it was time to begin the serious part of the night’s proceedings, following which they took everyone by surprise with the catchy Indian tune ‘Honey Bunny’.
The supporting acts, the Methodist College Choir, OKTAVE and the Revelations Academy, held their own at Hearts in Concert with their performance. Applauding the Methodist College Choir, Mrs. Vivette De Silva exclaimed that “they are, undoubtedly, the best school choir, which, under the leadership of Sanjeev Jayaratnam (director of the Revelations), has blossomed to an international level, winning a Platinum award in China last year.”
Hearts in Concert was most importantly a triumph for the Children’s Heart Project (CHP). With over Rs. 1.5 million collected as a result of the concert, CHP can now proceed with plans to develop a human tissue bank that will act as a catalyst to improving heart operations of children suffering from congenital heart disease. The awareness created for the event moved one anonymous donor to contribute Rs. 12 million to CHP.
The Concert’s overarching goal was achieved thanks to the generous sponsors, donors, partners supported by the Revelations, the Methodist College Choir, The Revelations Academy, OKTAVE, and accompanists Neranjan de Silva, Dharshi Edward and Christopher Prins.
