Fifty years of Nihal Nelson on show
View(s):Popular baila singer Nihal Nelson celebrates his fifty years in music scene on Friday, 15 March. His Golden jubilee show will be held 15 at the Musaeus College Auditorium with his colleagues in the music scene.
Having started his career as an SLBC singer in March 1963, Nihal Nelson became the only singer to release more than 100 cassettes. His maiden hit ‘Lassanata Pipuna Wanamal’ penned by Sarath Munasinghe (now Ven. Meegahawela Sumanasantha Thera) was a over night hit for Nihal. He released his first cassette in 1978 and by 2000 he had released 110.
Nihal Nelson has sung hundreds of songs including ‘Gune Ayyage Kamare’, ‘Oru Padinna’, ‘Kiri Amma’, ‘Karuna Suwanda Thawaralu- Amma’, , Asking Hitting, Salli Miti Ganan, ‘Erapan Karame’, ‘Kukku Koo Ku’, ‘Lassana Es Deka Punchi Karan’, ‘Kawadi Baila’ and several others.
As a playback singer he sang for many movies ‘Pem Kurullo’, ‘Diyamanthi’, ‘Valampuri’, ‘Sandawata Rantharu’, ‘Mal Warusa’, ‘Sakwithi Suwaya’, ‘Rodaya’ and ‘Shirani’.
The show is titled ‘Panas Wasarai, Nihal Ewith’ will be scripted by Ananda Padmasiri, managed by Rohana Hettiarachchi and compered by Tilak Kumar Rathnayake. Sunflowers will provide the music backing. The milestone event will coincide with the release of Nihal Nelson’s newest CD titled ‘Ringing Tone’ produced by Torana.
