Maliyadeva College Kurunegala crushed home town rivals St. Anne’s College by an innings and 35 runs in their 30th Annual ‘Battle of Rocks’ encounter concluded at the Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala.

This was Maliyadeva’s first victory since 1964. Maliyadeva batted first and made 244 for 6 in their first innings. Rasanjana Jayaratne stroked a fluent unbeaten 100 in 179 balls with 10 fours for Maliyadeva. Continuing from their overnight score 6 for 1 St. Anne’s were restricted to 93 in their first innings. Spinner Chandima Bandara did most of the damage by capturing 4 for 6 in the follow on. Annites failed once again and were bowled out for just 116 in 41.1. Centurion Rasanjana Jayarathna showed his all around capabilities by capturing six wickets for 33 for enabling Maliyadeva to gain a memorable victory in their 125th anniversary year.
