North battle ends in a tame draw
View(s):The 107th Battle of the North big match between St. John’s Jaffna and Jaffna Central played at the Jaffna Central ground in Jaffna ended in a tame draw yesterday.
The match was hampered due to bad weather on the second day where only 52 overs of play were possible. Even before the match began on the third and final day the outcome was going to be an inevitable draw.
Jaffna Central resuming from their overnight score of 126 for 7 was bundled out for 146 with left arm spinner Raviendran Lohathiswar ending up with figures of 5 for 50.
This was in reply to the Johnians score of 183 which came on the back of a captain’s inning by Jeyakumar Amidyan who made a top score of 62 which included five boundaries. Amidyan along with Thavarajah Sajan who chipped in with a 44 put on a valuable 87 runs stand for the fifth wicket.
St. John’s Jaffna batting the second time going in for quick runs lost wickets at regular intervals but made a score of 143 for 6 declared. Jaffna Central set a target of 181 runs for victory ended the day on 58 for 4.
