Dilan Perera, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, recently released the “Migration Profile: Sri Lanka” in the presence of Mr. Nissanka Wijeratne, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare; Richard Danziger, Chief of Mission – IOM; Dongi Li, Country Director – ILO; Amal Senadilankara, Chairman – Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment; Dr. Saman Kelegama, Executive Director, Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS) and a large number of participants at the IPS auditorium.
The report was prepared by the IPS with the support of the National Advisory Committee on Labour Migration (NACLM).
The major objective of migration profiles is to provide information related to migration, making the migratory picture of the country clearer at one glance. Apart from providing migration related information, Migration Profiles can be used for a variety of purposes such as identifying data gaps, promotion of policy coherance, better understanding of migration policy issues, developing indicators of the impact of migration, and facilitiating mainstraming of migration into development agendas, according to an IPS statement.
