Highlights of the CSA graduation and awards ceremony – 15th dec, 2012 at BMICH
View(s):The Graduation and Awards Ceremony of the City School of Architecture was held on the 15th of December, 2012 at the BMICH attended by over 100 Awardees with, parents and well-wishers, special invitees and academics. The ceremony was conducted in the best traditions of an academic community with cloaks and gowns; and the students and staff in ceremonial procession.

Archt. Ranjan Nadesapillai, the Chairman of the City School of Architecture (Colombo) Ltd. and President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, presided over the ceremony and conferred the CSA Diplomas and Higher Diplomas. The Vice Chancellor of the University of the West of England (UWE) conferred the UWE Degrees. It was a unique occasion where dual awards were conferred by two academic institutions. The guests of honour for the occasion were, Emeritus Prof. Lakshman Alwis and Dr. Jane Harrington of UWE, who gave away the CSA special Awards and Scholarships traditionally given out by the CSA. Prof. Lakshman Alwis is an honorary fellow of Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and a member of the College of Past Presidents SLIA, former Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa and Director Design Consortium Ltd. Dr. Jane Harrington is the Pro Vice Chancellor and
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Amongst the special guests present, were Archt. Prof. Chitra Wedikkara (Snr Vice President , SLIA), Archt. Asoka Widanapathirana (CEO of CSA), Archt. Jayantha Perera, Archt. Prasanna Silva & Archt. Ajitha Illangaratne (Directors of CSA), Prof. Niranjan Gunawardane (of the University of Moratuwa) & Archt. (Ms) Eeshani Mahesan (Former Head of CSA).
35 students successfully completed the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) Part I Examination and was awarded the CSA Diploma in Architectural Studies and granted exemption from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part I Examination. And 29 of them were also conferred the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of the West of England (UWE). 19 students successfully completed the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) Part II examination and was awarded the CSA Higher Diploma in Architecture and granted exemption from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part II examination. 14 of them were also conferred the Degree of Master of Architecture from the University of the West of England (UWE).
70 students received CSA Special Awards for excellence in Design and performance at the Final Examinations as well as the sessional examinations and research. CSA also awarded two scholarships for the best student Mr. Ravindra Handagama and the second best student Ms Kshanika Rupasinghe for obtaining a highest average for Theory Subjects and Comprehensive Design Project at the Part I Year 4 Examination. The highlight of the event was the award for the CSA Best Student to Ms Vinuri Ethapana, who obtained the highest average at the CSA Part II Examination with active participation at CSA events.
The Ceremony was conducted with proper academic traditions by Prof. Lal Balasuriya, Head of School of the City School of Architecture, an Honorary Fellow of Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and a member of the College of Past Presidents, SLIA and former Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa.
All members of academic staff of the CSA who were present on stage at the ceremony, congratulate the awardees and extended best wishes for their future endeavors.
