CJ 43 Bandaranayake’s lawyers see flaws in Bribery Com. probe
View(s):Lawyers for controversially impeached Chief Justice 43 Shirani Bandaranayake have protested to the Bribery Commission saying they were unaware of the scope of the inquiry against her nor had received any documentation about the inquiry.
Ms. Bandaranayake was summoned by the Bribery Commission on Monday for an investigation related to declaration of assets. Her lawyers lodged preliminary objections to the presence of certain members of the Commission saying they were biased as their family members had played a role in the impeachment process.
The lawyers also inquired from the inquiring officers what the scope of the inquiry would be as they had not received any documents relevant to the inquiring procedure. They were then asked to submit their written objections by April 1.
Ms. Bandaranayake declined to answer any questions posed by the media when she was leaving the commission. Meanwhile Bribery Commission spokesman declined to comment about the investigation. Earlier the Commission Chairman Jagath Balapatabendi told the Sunday Times that they had received a complaint against the Ms. Bandaranayake about an assets declaration and they had started to investigate the
matter.
